This site exists because the planning side of woodworking — the cut lists, the joint geometry, the "how many sheets do I actually need?" — shouldn't always be the part of a project that wears you out. The satisfying part is making things. The tools here are to take care of the rest.
What you'll find here
Free, browser-based tools for the planning problems woodworkers often face: box cut lists with 3D previews, sheet layout optimisation that produces cuts a real saw can make, dovetail and finger joint geometry, and board foot estimates. Alongside the expanding set of tools, a growing set of guides curated by a self-taught woodworker and furniture maker to answer the common questions many face when they start out in this field - material choice, tool choice, safety concerns.
The principles behind it
Tried and Tested. Every tool's underlying calculations are covered by automated test suites that run before any change ships. A cut list you can't trust is worse than no cut list at all.
Everything runs in your browser. Your dimensions, your cut lists, your project details — none of it is sent anywhere or stored anywhere. Close the tab and it's gone.
Free, no signups. No accounts, no email capture, no locked features. Open a tool and use it.
Who's behind it
Woodworking Tools is built and maintained by Hardd Works, a largely self-taught maker based in London. The idea to make some shortcuts that would help me with studio processes quickly developed into tools that I wanted to share with others!
